Biodiversity

A healthy aquatic ecosystem is an excellent way to enhance the biodiversity of a site. Whether it's a pond for a pond's sake or a space to enhance residents lives within a housing development, we can help to establish a balanced environment that helps wildlife to flourish.

Biodiversity Net Gain

Ponds support a huge number of plant, invertebrate and vertebrate species and are a superb vehicle for enhancing the biodiversity of a site. Indigenous plants provide unique habitats for pondlife, food and particular species can be cultivated to attract a wide variety of invertebrates.

There are at least 4000 species of freshwater invertebrate in the UK, about two thirds of which can live in ponds (Institute of Freshwater Ecology, 1999). These in turn provide food for frogs, newts, bats, birds and fish.

Ponds for BNG

In England BNG is mandatory for all developers, requiring a net gain of 10% over the undeveloped site. A balanced pond ecosystem is a superb way to not only introduce a range of new species to a site but should also encourage an improvement of biodiversity over time.
